Facebook Groups lets you connect with smaller circles of pals

0

Category: , , ,

The new Groups will be set to "closed" by default, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained during Wednesday’s briefing (which I caught via video feed). Creating a new group is a simple matter of adding a few friends, who in turn can add their own friends to your virtual Facebook community. Don’t worry: Anyone new who gets added to the group — including the name of whoever added the person — will be announced via an info panel, and you can always bail on a given group if you choose.

What can you do in a Facebook Group once you’ve created it? Well, there’s the obvious stuff, such as posting Group-specific updates or writing on the wall or sharing photos and video.

You can also do some more interesting things, such as creating and editing group documents (like, for example, shopping lists or the evening dinner menu), or you can engage in real-time group chat, a first for Facebook (which, until now, has only allowed one-on-one chat). You can also send an e-mail to the entire group using a custom e-mail address.

And what kinds of groups could you create? Based on Wednesday’s briefing, it sounds like Zuckerberg & Co. are hoping that groups will run the gamut from, say, friends and colleagues to everyone you know who’s into football, or perhaps just a small circle of your closest friends and family (who might me more interested in what’s in your lunch bag than everyone else on your friends list).

The new Facebook Groups will begin rolling out today, Zuckerberg said, and will replace the current public Groups functionality that you could previously restrict only to a Facebook network. But existing Groups will continue to exist, as well the (little-used, apparently) Friends Lists that you can create from the left-hand navigation bar. And yes, developers will eventually get a crack at Groups, although I’d imagine that a Group could block a Facebook Platform application in the same way an individual user can.

So what we’re essentially talking about here is the same kind of virtual workspace that you might find on an office intranet — or the failed Google Wave, for that matter. Instead of collaborating on projects, though, Facebook users will be using Groups to collaborate ... well, socially.

Zuckerberg said that Groups was revamped in order to address the "biggest problem in social networking": namely, trying to organize all your various friends on Facebook into specific social groups. The current Friends Lists feature on Facebook was intended to help users create such groups, but only about 5 percent of Facebookers have actually created a friend list, Zuckerberg said.

Another option was to use an algorithm that would automatically herd your friends into groups, but such a technical solution could easily make critical mistakes (like adding the plumber that you’ve been dealing with lately — Zuckerberg’s example — to your list of closest confidants) or work entirely too well (like prioritizing a, well, secret pal you’ve been messaging on the sly).

Allowing Facebook users to create their own Groups — with new members able to add their own friends — seemed like the most appropriate solution, Zuckerberg said.

Will users take to the new feature? Hard to say. I’m happy to see that the new Groups will be set to "closed" by default, but I wonder if allowing any member of a group to invite anyone else they want might cause problems. Then again, being able to create a small, private group of Facebook pals does have some appeal, especially when you want to share a bit of trivia that could be a little too trivial for your zillion other Facebook friends.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

Release Date: October 12

Platform: Wii

Kirby's Epic Yarn

He might not be the most recognizable mascot on Nintendo's roster, but Kirby is poised for a serious breakout in this gorgeous platformer. The game sewed up multiple awards at the E3 game convention in June, and for good reason: its charming style and unique, textile-based visuals make it one of the most eye-catching games to hit the Wii in some time. Let's hope the rotund gumball has the gameplay to back it up.

Fallout: New Vegas

Release Date: October 19

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC

Fallout: New Vegas

Though it's not an official sequel to 2008 Game of the Year winner Fallout 3, this post-apocalyptic role-playing effort set in a bombed-out Las Vegas looks like a blast (pun intended.) In addition to all the free-roaming fun of its forbear, New Vegas will let you modify weapons, craft your own ammo, and, of course, make all sorts of questionable decisions as you explore the Mojave Wasteland.

Rock Band 3

Release Date: October 26

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii

Madden Arcade

Tired of arguing with your musician friends over the validity of music games? Then stick Rock Band 3 at the top of your most-wanted chart. Not only does it pack a brand new set list, a new keyboard peripheral and hundreds of smaller tweaks, but it also features a Pro Mode that will actually teach you how to play guitar. For real. Using a real guitar. Looks like it's time to get the band back together...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Release Date: October 26

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, PC, DS

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Gran Turismo 5

Release Date: November 2

Platform: Playstation 3

Gran Turismo 5

No, it's not April 1. This is not a prank. You are not seeing things. In development for over 30 years (or at least it feels like it), the long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 finally becomes street legal this November. The numbers are pretty impressive: around 1,000 vehicles, over 70 tracks, 16--player online play and countless graphical enhancements await the patient millions anxious to play it. We're betting you’re one of them.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Release Date: November 2

Platform: PSP

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

It's not Kratos' first foray on Sony's handheld, but Ghost of Sparta will undoubtedly give the award-winning Chains of Olympus a run for its money. This portable powerhouse offers new abilities, new enemies, new bosses, and new insight into Kratos' early days as the God of War. It also gives us a new reason to dust off the PSP.

GoldeneEye 007 Wii

Release Date: November 2

Platform: Wii

GoldeneEye 007 Wii

Hailed as one of the most influential games of all time, the original GoldenEye on the N64 took first-person shooting to new heights. We're not sure the rebooted Wii version will have quite the same impact, but it's a really, really big deal for Wii owners itching for some legitimate multiplayer fragging. They'll get plenty of that and more, as the new game will include a thoroughly reworked solo campaign as well.

Microsoft Kinect

Release Date: November 4

Platform: Xbox 360

Microsoft Kinect

Maybe you've heard of it? Microsoft's innovative camera system hopes to change motion-controlled gaming forever by getting rid the controller and letting you interact with your 360 using gestures and voice commands. While many of its launch titles seem geared toward the family crowd (we'll be covering specific Kinect games soon), a slew of recent announcements from the Tokyo Game Show indicate that Kinect could work wonders for more serious gamers, too. One caveat: at $150, it's pricey, so make sure you have space in both your checking account and your living room before jumping in.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Release Date: November 9

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, PC

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Two things are certain this November: you will overeat, and you will at least consider playing another Call of Duty game. This time, players will dive into the Cold War, blasting their way through hotspots around the world, including Russia, Cuba, and of course, Vietnam. It packs some riveting new multiplayer modes, too, such as the "Wager Match" type that lets you gamble for in-game points.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Release Date: November 16

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

It's hard to believe that it's only been a year since the stunning Assassin's Creed II scampered into our hearts. Often, releasing a sequel a year later is a recipe for oversaturation, but few developers deserve the benefit of the doubt like Ubisoft Montreal. The fact that it boasts cool new gameplay tweaks and what could be the year's most surprisingly addictive multiplayer doesn’t hurt, either.

LittleBigPlanet 2

Release Date: November 16

Platform: Playstation 3

LittleBigPlanet 2

Creating stuff in ingenious Sony game LittleBigPlanet was cool, but how about creating entirely new games? Such is the promise of the sequel, which hopes to up the ante tenfold by allowing players to build entirely new games in a matter of minutes. Throw in 50 levels worth of a brand new adventure brimming with kooky new gadgets, and you've got the makings for another PS3 masterpiece.

Epic Mickey

The most famous mascot of them all makes a bold return to video games in this weird, wonderful adventure. Created by legendary designer Warren Spector (Deus Ex, System Shock), this uncharacteristically dark tale brings the mischief back to the mouse, letting players alter the landscape using paint or paint thinner as they interact with an impressive roster of Disney characters.

Pet Society - 3.2.65 Easy Mode More Features!

0

Category: , , , , , ,

New Features!: This cheat includes Fast Dig, Fast Fish and All Neighbors are Dirty (to get coins, just visit friends and clean them, fast pet scrubbing (no more wearing out yourself or your mouse with excess scrubbing) AND ALSO USE YOUR FRIENDS' DYE TABLE ( if one of your neighbors bought a cash dye table, you could just visit their house and use their table to dye your wigs for free)

Read this first: This .swf file allows you to "scan" the area for treasures so that you will ALWAYS know the exact location of the treasure. Now you will NEVER waste a dig. 100% working if you follow my instructions exactly. Do NOT click on areas that do not have a square or the game will GLITCH and you will have to reload the game. I repeat, hover your mouse over the land and when a gray square appears, there is a treasure there and you can click that. I will probably do a video to show you guys the result of a glitched digging.

Important:
There are cases where people commented that they got suspended for their first dig. Try to do some normal stuff first like purchasing items, scrubbing before you dig.
Do other stuff in between digs as you may get suspended for ONE day if you get treasures too quickly. So just dig, fish, dig, buy some stuff etc... There are reports that some of you get suspended on your first dig? Hmm.. What I can say is, maybe try purchasing an apple from the shop, do some normal shopping first then dig. PS cheating counter is glitchy so just be cautious.

Steps.by.pwnthis :

1. Download the files above.
2. Open Fiddler.
3. Go to Autoresponder and ensure both 'Enable Automatic.. ' and 'Permit pass...' are ticked
4. Click ADD.
5. A 'String To Match' will appear. change it to
REGEX:(?insx)http://d2syub29v5lge2.cloudfront.net/game/pets/swf/.*/pets.swf
6. Click on the ▼ button beside the Save and select 'Browse a file'.
7. Browse to the files that you have downloaded above and select the file you just downloaded from me 'pets3.2.65-ezmode.swf'
8. Click SAVE.
9. Now, just clear cache and load Pet Society.
10. Enter Digging Lands and hover your mouse over to "scan".. If a gray square appears, click it.. If no gray square, do NOT click..

Car Town - Cheats

0

Category: , , , , , , ,

The game's incredibly simple: Collect, connect, and race. Best of all - you get your own garage. Kidding. The game dons a free-to-play model while offering premium services like premium cars, premium accessories, speeding up in-game services and the like. So if you want that premium car with that custom paint job so bad, unfortunately you'll have to shell out a couple of bucks for it.

Anyway, you've landed in this page looking for Car Town cheats, hacks and tips. I have Car Town cheats right here that would work with the help of the famous Cheat Engine program for Facebook. Car Town cheats/Car Town Hacks below:

Requirements:

Cheat Engine v5.6
Mozilla Firefox
Car Town account
A friend to race with

Instructions

1. Open Cheat Engine v5.6 and your Car Town account;
2. Click on the computer icon on the Cheat Engine and find Firefox.exe;
3. Here's where your friend comes in: Challenge a friend to a practice run;
4. Click Scan first then input the score you want to acquire (probably 9999) on the Cheat Engine;
5. Go to Car Town, click on Practice Again but do not race yet. Change the score value box on the Cheat Engine to 0 (where you put 9999 previously) and click on Next Scan or perform a new scan;
6. Double-click the icon on the left side of the Cheat Engine and it will go down to the lower box. Click on the last value you'll see, change it to your desired score, then click on the small box;
7. After doing #6, go back to Car Town and start the race with your friend. Be sure not to foul the race/to win the race because even if you max out your desired score on the Cheat Engine (9999), you'll just have the maximum score allowed on your car's HP on the race results page;
8. See your score max out and be astounded.

I also found some Car Town tips on the web, courtesy of Cartown-cheats.com. It's a downloadable which I think is in .pdf format (Adobe). I haven't verified it yet, but you can. Car Town tips download link below:

Click HERE to download Car Town Tips (1.7MB)

I hope you enjoyed my Car Town Cheats, Car Town Hacks, and Car Town Tips post.

'Till my next installment.

P.S. In my opinion, CIE Games is earning income in two ways from this game: 1) Premium service from Car Town players and; 2) Car manufacturers that advertise their brand on Car Town.

Banned: Medal of Honor

0

Category: , , , , ,

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Military bases across the U.S. have banned the sale of a new video game that lets a player pretend to be a Taliban fighter and "shoot" U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

"Medal of Honor" by Electronic Arts, a major game developer based in Redwood City, Calif., hits stores Oct. 12. Gamers are scoffing at the decision, saying that advanced technology has made it commonplace in the gaming world to let players switch sides and play the bad guy.

Medal of Honor

Banned: Medal of Honor

After public protests, including by British Defense Secretary Liam Fox, U.S. military officials decided not to stock the game in any of the nearly 300 base exchange shops.

The game also won't be sold at any of the 49 GameStop stores located on various military bases. Troops will be allowed to own copies, but they would have to buy them off-base.

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause authorized shoppers, but are optimistic that they will understand the sensitivity to the life-and-death scenarios this product presents as entertainment," said Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella, who commands the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, which oversees more than 180 base exchange shops.

Casella made the decision last week, with the Navy quickly following suit. Kathleen Martin, a spokeswoman for the Navy Exchange Service Command, said the game won't be sold at any of the Navy's 104 exchange shops "out of respect for the men and women serving and their families."

Past versions of the 11-year old "Medal of Honor" game have been set in World War II, allowing players to act as either members of the Allied force or the Nazi regime.

The latest version is set in modern Afghanistan, where some 140,000 U.S. and NATO troops are fighting the Taliban. The story is told through a small group of characters known as "Tier 1" operators, elite fighters who take their orders directly from the president and defense secretary.

"Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of hand-picked warriors are called on when the mission must not fail," according to an online description of the video game by Electronic Arts.

The website does not advertise the fact that the multiplayer version allows a player to role-play as a member of the Taliban.

One online promotion features video interviews with Special Operations personnel who the company says served as consultants to improve the authenticity of the game. The faces of the men interviewed were blurred and their names not given.

"By me being a part of it, I at least have some say on how the community is represented," one man says.

Britain's Fox said last month that he was "disgusted and angry" by what was a "tasteless product." Fox called on retailers to show their support for the troops by not selling it.

"At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands," Fox said. "It's shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban against British soldiers."

Electronic Arts did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Spokeswoman Amanda Taggart was quoted last month by the Sunday Times as saying video gamers routinely play both good guys and bad guys.

"Most of us have been doing this since we were 7: Someone plays cop, someone must be robber," the newspaper quoted her as saying.

Do You Know What Are Browser Based Games?

0

Category: , , , , , , ,

Why would you play browser based games?
Browser based games are games that do not require any kind of downloads.
They are fun, most of them are interactive games which means that you will have to communicate with other people.
What you need to have is an internet connection and web browser. In communication, I mean by dealing or trading with others, killing them or even chatting with them in chat rooms or forums. Browser based games are fun to play. It is a great way to kill your time. They work on all types of computers and they do not require any high specifications. You can play them as long as your PC runs web browsers.

There are a few different types of browser based games you can choose to play. Most common games are Role Playing Games (RPG) where you take a role of one character (in some games, you can control a several characters) and you build him/her stronger.
Basically, you train, you fight monsters and level up and increase their statistics and powers. The other one is strategy games. They are really fun as you can control the whole army and send them to war or you can grow plants and take care of your garden.

There are plenty of sub-categories for this one. There are many other types of browser based games but it would be too long and boring to read. There are plenty of them though most of them use the same kind of script which was played and done several times. It is a little bit harder to find unique browser based games to play.

The other important thing about these kind of browser based games is to know whether you want a short time consuming game or long time consuming game. Short time consuming games won't consume much time as you probably need to play like ten to one hour per day and you still can compete with other people. Some of them are boring while most of them are not boring though you can play a few games at the time. Unlike time consuming games, you have to spend hours and hours if you want to compete with champion or top players. They also become boring as you keep playing unlike low time consuming browser based games. You do not sit there hours to level up or complete the quest, you simply spend your energy and go away.

In conclusion, I must say that browser based games are really good and fun games if you do not play a game hours and hours as it gets bored unless it is really good and long game. However, really long games most likely are playable with paid subscription which costs money. If you do not want to spend money or time on fun games, look for low time consuming browser based games. There are plenty of them.
